How to change the colour of an object in a photo with AI
Crop around the object, describe its new colour and ask the AI to preserve its material, shadows and shape. Merge the recoloured crop into the original to keep the rest of the photo untouched.
1. Crop around the object
Duplicate the photo and crop around the whole object, including its edges and shadow. Leave some unchanged background on each side. If another object overlaps it, keep that overlap visible so the editor understands which edges belong in front.
2. Describe the colour precisely
Name the object and the new colour. Add a familiar reference such as forest green, warm ivory or deep navy. Ask the editor to preserve the original material, highlights and texture so the result still belongs in the scene.
Change only the colour of the [object] from [current colour] to [new colour].
Keep its shape, material, texture, highlights and shadows unchanged. Keep the background, framing and outer edges identical.
3. Merge the recoloured object back
Download the edited crop and compare its edges with the original. Then upload both images to Cropmerger. The recoloured area is placed into the full-resolution original while everything outside the crop remains unchanged.

- Ask for one colour change at a time.
- Keep reflections. A glossy object should still reflect its surroundings.
- If the object has a logo or text, keep that area outside the edit or mask it separately.
